Bombay Teapots are best described as contemporary style of teapot. The company that makes them the Bombay Company was founded in 1978 by Brad Harper. The Bombay Company was originally a mail-order company. Harper opened two stores in New Orleans. In 1980 Harper sold the U.S. operating rights.
Quite a few of the teapots that Bombay makes are for decoration only and should not be used to actually make tea. They do however make some working functional teapots so be sure to read the label or sticker to make sure the Bombay Teapot is safe to use.
